so firstly my HQ's.....

Now one thing im not going to claim is that this is my unique set up, near enough everyone who plays necrons will see this at some point. The reason I have chosen to use an Overlord on Command Barge is that as a pair they can be lethal, they negate alot of fire power from your wraiths and if they survive they can cause carnage. with there strength 7 Warscythe and 2D6 Armour penetration they are just too good not to take. Also giving them Mindhshackle Scarabs makes them even more dangerous when they are on foot, who doesnt like watching a special character kill himself before moving on to the next without even throwing a punch?   A great addition to any necron army , great anti tank, great for assaulting individual characters  Mephiston, Sanguinor etc and the likes of daemon princes.

In my Royal Court i have 3 Harbingers of Destruction and one has a Solar Pulse. I chose to take the Destructeks due to there Strength 8 AP 2 shot , having 2 courts meens i can have 2 units of warriors with 2 lances in each , My Tacticts with these is to leave them in the warrior units and Camp inside Terrain, If needed take a couple of turns moving and shooting  to reach a nearby objective. Which is another thing that is great about there weapons, who doesnt like a strength 8 shot that you can move into position if needed?

Next is my Elite choice...

Now a few people disagree with my choice to take this but i find that they can be incredible if used right. To fit this guy in i had to drop 2 Destructeks which wasnt really a problem since i had 2 melta shots at 24 inch range in place of there lances, so i was dropping new shots and gaining another AV13 Walker. This model comes in to play when you have a "MUST KILL" unit in the enemies army. How many times have you fired all of your crypteks and missed? Its not a good feeling but with this guy if he shoots at the "MUST KILL" unit and fails to destroy it anything else shooting at the same target is twin linked. This can be so helpful and can have a big influence on how the game unfolds. Also if he gets in to close range he has a nice flamer option which the necron army is lacking. He also gives a bit more survivability to the barges, If you have a walker with 2 Melta shots coming towards you and 2 Command barges makes Target priority a problem for your opponent. I really love this guy and plan on using him for a very long time, Never leave home without your Stalker :)

4 , 5 man Warrior units....

I've never been a fan of big troop units so this is not necessarily the best option but more my personal taste. i use them to hide , run and capture objectives, its an extra 5 wounds for my destructeks so not much to say about them really so ill move on.....

now my favourite unit in the codex....

Wraiths , Wraiths , Wraiths, I love them. They are fairly expensive but definitely worth it for what they do. they move like jump infantry, ignore terrain for movement, have a load of attacks , rending and a 3+ invulnerable save. Who can not want a unit of Wraiths in there army, Adding the Whip Coils just makes them aload better! Its like having a bowl full of Ice Cream, Perfect as it is but add Chocolate sauce and your in heaven :) ... I use my 2 units of  Wraiths to steam infront of my army and go for the biggest scariest thing, if needed they can tie things up for a couple of turns to allow the rest of my army to deal with the not so threatening units. The only problem i have had with Wraiths is assaulting Paladins, They really do struggle, or it could just be that i had an unlucky game. It also makes a great assault unit when teaming up with a Mindshackle lord. I I will go in to Wraiths in more detail in a future post but it would be great to see how many you run in your army, if any? :O .

Now on to the Heavy support

3 Annihilation Barges....

Now, these are sometimes under rated and ignored by people who are not aware of what they can do. They are incredibly useful for taking out infantry and light armoured tanks. How, one word... TESLA!.... When rolling 4 twin linked shots and for every 6 you roll you get another 2 hits, so when fireing 3 of these in to anything your going to roll a few 6's  ( unless your unlucky ) a few games ago i shot at a Marine Biker unit , i rolled 3 6's from one barge and 2 6's from the other 2 barges, thats  10 strength 7 hits from a 4 shot weapon, and 8  hits from each of the other 2 barges. Now whilst that is a bit of luck that shows the output that these Annihilation Barges can do. And then you have the Ark which can also be deadly. I sit all 3 close together  towards the back of my board and if needed move them closer, they are a great gun platform and form a solid part of my list.

So thats the breakdown of my current list which i plan on using for a while.  Any feedback would be great  and if i wrote way too much for a single post, please let me know :) thanks for reading and keep checking back for future posts!

Thursday 15 March 2012

Hi again guys. Sorry that its been a while since my last post ( didnt think i had any readers! ) but now im back and will post regularly. Ok now onto the army...

I have now had about 6-8 games with necrons and find them incredibly fun and a solid army choice. Im also still unbeaten with them :) although i have the 40k UK GT coming up next weekend so that unbeaten run will end.

The list i previously posted was what i started with , i took them to a 1 day event and out of 3 games i won 2 and drew one.
First game:  My first game i drew a fairly new Eldar player. He ran a could of wraithlords a couple of wave serpents, 6 walkers and a variation of troops. ( this was 2k so i added 5 more warriors to each unit )  During the game there was a few turns where i felt a little bit worried, when any unit gets close to my warriors i get so worried, especially when theres 10 banshes 7 inches away from my back line infront of my warrior units :... :(  anyway, eventually i managed to table him, the game was 1 objective each and my lords performed outstandling  making a wraith lord on 2 wounds kill himself with mind shackle scarabs then getting shot to death by a unit of walkers , then getting back up and dealing with them  ( happy days ).

Game 2:  my second game was against guard with manticores, hydras, vendettas , chimeras and more plasma and melta troops than you could wave a stick at... my face immediatly dropped. I dont know much about guard so i struggled to choose what took priority so i just aimed at the biggest thing, the vendettas 2 in seperate units.i deployed wrong and had my wraiths infront which left them open to be obliterated , And obliterated they was, at the end of his first turn i had 1 wraith left... bad times. my lords managed to take out 1 vendetta but due to my deployment couldnt maximize the damage onto both. The game was swings and roundabouts, one turn i did well and he did terrible, the turn after i did terrible and he did well. i managed to get a draw in the end ( 5 objectives game ) holding 2 each. i didnt find mobility to be a problem since the warriors are able to move 6 and still fire there lance so can constantly move if needed.

Game 3: in my last game i drew grey knights * sigh *  ... he had a storm raven with paladins in and a librarian, psykers in rhinos, acolytes in razorbacks and psyfledreads. Again my opponent went first, he did the usual trick of turbo boosting his storm raven into my face and destroyed a barge with his multi melta. Again i felt myself having a terrible start. Luckily i managed to get my second barge over his storm raven and jump out . I knew the paladins would cause me a whole lot of hurt next turn so this was my plan ... Sweep attack the storm raven, destroy it, fire all my annihilation barges into the paladins hopefully take a few wounds off, then assault them with my lord and wraiths.
This is what happened ... I managed to destroy the storm raven, then i shot my first annihilation barge into the paladins, caused 0 wounds and rolled for the arc on the lord and wraiths, unfortunatly i managed to arc into my lord, causing 3 wounds.... failing.... 3 wounds :(.  so there was my plan screwed. I then continued to shoot everything into them  and did nothing. I had no choice but to throw my wraiths into combat with them and luckily managed to tie them up for 2 turns , positioning my warriors in the next turn so that they could fire on them at a safe distance away . Eventually on turn 4 i managed to take them all out thank god! and i won the game at range shooting everything i had into his gunline of psykers, razorbacks and dreads, last turn my scarabs managed to kill 2 dreadnoughts  and a razorback which won me the game ( kill points ).
Having to fire so much into the paladins really made me unable to deal with the rest of his army effectivly which i noticed would be a big problem in the future. I managed to finish 4th out of 20 and had a really good day .

Well, that was my first tournament with my crons and not loseing a game really gave me a confidence boost but the issue now was, i needed to change my list to be able to deal with death star units alot quicker than i did on that day. Be sure to check my next post about my new list that i will be taking to the 40KUK GT next weekend. I hope i havn't bored you too much and it would be great to read your comments!

My Introduction to Necrons

When the Necron Codex was released i told myself i would avoid them at all costs and not jump on the band wagon like alot of other people just because they was new.... That didn't last long. Just before i switched to them i was using a fairly competitive Blood Angel army but i wasn't doing that well in local tournaments. I had seen a couple of people using Necrons at a recent tournament in nottinghm and whilst watching the game for over a hour i was watching the Necrons just destroy everything they looked at and had no idea what was going on. I didn't know what he was doing or how he was doing it. But then i played a friend at a 1 day event and after only killing 2 warriors in his entire army and getting tabled i thought "ok, i've really got to see what's going on with this new shiny metal army!"  so i picked up the codex and the first time i had a look through it, it seemed very complex and fun to use.So i picked up my pen and paper and started writing lists. i took some elements from my friends list and tried to make it my own. I play in a fairly competitive group and attend some of the top UK tournaments so i was looking to write something as cheesy and dirty as i could ( i learnt from he who shall not be named ) :)
This is what i came up with:

HQ
Overlord: Mind Shackle Scarabs, Warscythe
Dedicated Transport: Catacomb Command Barge

Overlord: Mind Shackle Scarabs, Warscythe
Dedicated Transport: Catacomb Command Barge

Royal Court:
4 Harbingers of Destruction: 1 Solar Pulse

Royal Court
4 Harbingers of Destruction: 1 Solar Pulse

Troops
5 Warriors

5 Warriors

5 Warriors

5 Warriors

Fast Attack
8 Canoptek Scarabs

8 Canoptek Scarabs

6 Canoptek Wraiths: 6 Whip Coils

Heavy Support
Annihilation Barge

Annihilation Barge

Annihilation Barge

This comes in dead on 1750pts and can easily be changed to 1500pts and 2000pts with little change which was a big plus side. my aim with the army was to make it totaly different to my current Blood Angel army. In short i had 2 land raiders with assault squads inside, 1 redeemer with terminators inside, mephiston and 2 predators. It was a 1 hit wonder if the terminators died i had no chance so i wanted something with a few more models than can easily adapt to different situations.

I run 2 Crypteks ( 1 from each court ) in my warrior squads which makes every unit in the list able to deal with tanks and infantry ( some better than others ) all i had to do is play test it!.

Welcome!

Hi everyone!  Before i start talking about everything Necrons let me tell you abit about myself. My names Jay im 23 and i've been playing / collecting Warhammer 40k for about a year now.
